Coindesk: Pantera Leads $1.1 Million Funding for African Bitcoin Startup BitPesa

Kenya-based bitcoin services provider BitPesa has secured $1.1 million in funding, led by Pantera Capital and supported by several VC firms including Bitcoin Opportunity Corp, Crypto Currency Partners, Future/Perfect Ventures, and Stephens Investment Management. BitPesa, which enables the exchange of bitcoin for Kenyan Shillings and allows users in Kenya and Ghana to send fiat funds to mobile money wallets, plans to use the funding to expand to Tanzania and Uganda. CEO Elizabeth Rossiello emphasized the company’s focus on building a solid product and expanding its team to grow in other markets. Investors view BitPesa as a key player in using bitcoin to enhance financial inclusion and connect unbanked populations to the global economy. Read it here.
